Vacation, Day 2

Saturday May 1st
We started off with breakfast at Café de la Presse, a Parisian inspired cafe where we both had a ham and cheese omelet with wedge fries, an English muffin, and fresh orange juice. Delicious! From there we took a taxi to the Palace of Fine Arts for a walking tour. After arriving a bit early we took photos of the gorgeous (and no doubt expensive) houses that overlooked the park.

While taking photos I noticed that there appeared to be some dust stuck inside the camera and Andy, refusing to let it go, removed the lens to get to it and in the process broke the camera! (My baby!) When we tried to take a photo everything was black. As you can imagine I was not a happy camper! Trying to move past the broken camera and make the most of our time we went on the walking tour, which ended up not quite living up to our expectations.

Afterwards we walked all over the city trying to see if we could get the camera fixed, only to find out it would take weeks and likely a few hundred dollars. Since we can’t live without a good camera we ended up buying a new one, with the hope that we can fix the old camera when we get home and sell it. At the end of the day we returned to the hotel and Andy was able to fix the camera back to its previous (yet still dusty) state.

After a grueling day of walking until our feet felt like they were going to fall off we decided to do something easy for dinner. We got a bite to eat at In And Out Burger and made it our mission to try the 3 major fast food chains that we don’t have here: In and Out Burger, Jack in the Box, and Karl’s Jr. After having tried them all I have to say that I don’t feel that I’m missing out on much.

Lesson of the day: Don’t go messing with the inside of your camera if you don’t know what you’re doing! Cameras are expensive to fix and expensive to buy.

Home Sweet Home

We just arrived home from our vacation in San Francisco and the surrounding areas. We had a fantastic time and kept so busy that I didn’t have any time for blogging. In fact, we were so busy that we now need a vacation from our vacation!

Friday April 30th

Our direct flight to San Francisco was delayed one hour due to a mechanical problem. After getting off of the plane we rushed to the metro station and caught the last train of the night to our hotel. Unfortunately the hotel had overbooked and since we got in so late (around 4am there) we were the ones without a room. The bright side was that we weren’t left out in the cold - they arranged for a complimentary night at their sister hotel, the Villa Florence, just a few blocks away.

And perhaps just as nice, we were upgraded to a suite the following nights at Hotel Abri, the hotel we originally booked. The suite was wonderful, with a separate living room, two flat screen televisions, abundant counter space in the bathroom, and a king bed so comfortable we had to force ourselves to get out!

Stay tuned to hear how the rest of our trip went!

The Indecisives Make a Decision!

Photobucket

Yep, that's where we finally decided to go! We'll be flying into San Francisco and spending 4 days there. Then we will spend another 4 days renting a car and visiting some of the beautiful sights outside the city such as Big Sur, The Sequoia National Park (home of General Sherman), Moro Rock, and Yosemite National Park. If we have time we'll drive through the Mountain View area, which is where google and a number of other big tech companies reside.

I'm very excited to finally travel to the west coast. (It seems so odd to say that since I'm from the west coast, just not the west coast that people normally think of!) The only bad part of vacation? It makes it so much more difficult to study when all you can think about is getting to take a break and have fun!

Be Back Soon

My blog postings will be a bit light for the next week and a half or so. I begin finals this Monday and from all of the end of semester stress I've come down with a cold. I'm using all of my energy just to stay awake while studying.

But some good news - we decided where we'll be going for vacation! More about that later...

And to help make up for my lack of posting, I'll leave you with a link to a site I found recently. Check out www.decorpad.com They've got lots of beautiful home photos. You can search by room, color, keyword, favorites, and recent uploads. Enjoy!

Mr. and Mrs. Indecisive

There is a 10 day break between the end of this semester and when I begin clinic, which happens to be right before our anniversary. Andy and I thought it would be nice to take a vacation, but we're too indecisive!

Our initial idea was an extended weekend getaway to Key West, but I discovered that the hotels down there are very expensive for what you get. Then we toyed with the idea of taking a boat to get to one of the islands or going on a cruise, but quickly moved on to other ideas. How about finding a cheap flight and going somewhere a bit further? There seemed to be some good deals out there, but as it turned out the flights had higher taxes and fees than the actual cost of the flight, doubling the advertised low price! Well, maybe Andy can take more time off, we'll spend a bit more, and go on a real vacation. Hmm, how about San Francisco? It seemed like a great idea for a moment, but then those penny-pinching thoughts of ours came in. I'll need a new car in a few years and it would be better to put that money in the bank. So, back to square one...

Let's hope we can reach a decision before my time off is over!
